Loki's Boots (from The Avengers) by D-AMJ-C Loki's Boots (from The Avengers) by D-AMJ-C
(09/19/2012) A while back someone asked if I would submit some shots of Loki's boots. So that's what we have here. I've started on the Height Chart for Thor but it's proving to be harder than I thought & so since I believe it's going to take me quite a while, here are those boots I was asked for. I hope this is helpful... I think I've heard the movie (Avengers) is out now so I would think that anyone with the movie could get better images than from what I've researched online... that's what I'd do if I had the movie (either of them). So hey, if someone does have the Avengers & wants to get some cool screenshots of Loki's boots from all angles, some folks would really love that!

(09/23/2012) *** UPDATE *** : For more on the gold vs. black circlet issue, please see this: [link] image.

Can I just love you?
Do you know how much you've helped me with this? (and how much I hate the costmer designer right now...)

This is super helpful! Do you by any chance have a picture for the top back of his boots? I'm making them right now and I'm a bit confused as to what the top of them look like from the back.

Awesome is as awesome does and indeed those boots is awesome-blossom, yo. Do not begrudge your older sibling for her choice in movie villains, we can't ALL be in to anemiclly-pale, crazy-as-f**k-eyed, egotistically god-complexed, head-to-toe leather-wearing, black clothed/black haired/black hearted psychopathic Jotun in sheep's clothing. After all, where would the fun be in that?

LOL awesome blossom. and i do not begrudge my sis at all; we both love the villains. and yeah, where's the fun in all of us being like Loki? it's more fun when there's only one of him and we all love him/bow to him. ^^ i'd just flop right down on my face!

Hey, no problem, yo! You know what you need to do now though, right? With the movie being released for home use within the week, you need someone who can take high definition screen shots for you so you can get even better shots! I tell you it was HARD to get the references here! I have some more info regarding the color changes in the circlets being posted in the next day or so, pretty much confirming the "full armor" vs. "casual wear" thing. If you need anything else let me know & when I have the time I'll go through my archives & see if I can find a good image for you! Cheers!

Hmmmm. You know, this is totally off to the side but I'm looking @ your signature & thinking about that "scars are souvenirs" thingy. I had some awful scarring on my face from a childhood incident involving a dog & my right eye but had them removed (the scars, not my eye! Ha ha ha ha ha!) later on with 2 sessions of corrective surgery. So my lack of visible scars... what does that say about me? I am really curious of some insight on this!

its lyrics from a Goo Goo Dolls song, Name
I suppose it has a different meaning for everyone
for me its like psychological scars, but for others it could be physical like self harm
you would have to look it up for the full meaning, im afraid

Ah yes! No problem! When I thought of what to do first I DID remember you specifically requested the boots while no one else mentioned anything. I've been told that the movie is releasing within a week & so I expect that the internet will be flooded with great high-resolution images but until then, you can use what I've found, right? Cheers!

The circlets -- you wouldn't believe the wonders of LIGHT!

Yes, I thought of that as well, that the circlets were being "lit up" in the brighter scenes but... no... in some of the photos I was looking @, it really looked like they WERE black because they were not in the shade. Plus, the edging on his jacket is either black or bronze when the circlets are black while they are bright gold when the circlets are gold.

I've had a couple of other people tell me they believe the color changes with the costume; his "normal clothes" having the dark edging with black circlets while his full battle armor has bright edging & gold circlets. I haven't confirmed it yet but it sounds more plausible than the "trick of light" theory [I had & you've mentioned].

So what do you think? Yea or nay on costume changes vs. light/shade?

Interesting... my personal take is, there could have been 2-3 examples of the costume done - knowing in that conditions the scenes would be shot ;) And the designer took either took that into consideration, or ran out of one or either.

Second point - post-work. Yes there is the light used on the set, but there is a huge amount of software usage with the frames during the post-processing - that might have as results the change in shades ;) They could have been colored during that bit...

I wonder if the movie makers are aware of this detail! if it'll be quoted in a book about the movie or in the special features of the dvds :giggle:

Yes! God point there on the digital use of "lighting"... hadn't thought of that. So many things to consider & really, when making a production that MASSIVE, something like circlets on boots might be missed... I really wouldn't claim to know either way as I have only even SEEN the movie once! Ha ha ha ha ha!

and if can bring in a further aspect that the producers cannot control. The television or screen you use. I was once in a Sony's electronic shop downtown. There ware TV sets all over the wall and Trust me - among the 10 there, i could almost see 10 different shades of the same red the soccer player was wearing on his jersey! Some tv sets were more vibrant, others were darker, others had a red almost fushia neon glowing pink ... i mean it's unreal! You'd think all screens are the same ? I got my answer to that last year!

Wow. Goodness! Thank you, zemimsky! Such a wealth of information you are! I leave my house to drop off/pick up my kids from school & to go to the grocery store every 2 weeks. I rarely, rarely ever leave for anything other than that. So stores with many TV's?... no, I can't recall seeing something like that in a very long while. I forget what it's like to be out in big social settings, talking to people in person & with my voice. I don't even know what's ON television (don't have it) unless it's popular enough to make it to the MSN homepage online. So thank you very much for all the time you've spent on filling me in with things I'd not taken into consideration. Whether they come in to play here or not, they are a wealth of invaluable ideas that I can use for years to come!

It's my pleasure! I have to say that wall of TVs was a bit a surprise to me too! I was downtown with my best friend and before we headed off to our photographic spot - we toured the "mall city" (which is about 5-6 great malls all linked underground) and we popped in that one and it was quite an eye opener really! I wasn't expecting such dramatic changes!

I had a clinical depression since April 2011 - I sort of got out of it Thanks to Tom (seen the movie Thor in June of this year) so I also missed quite a lot of the social fuss but I have no regrets. When you don't have taste for nothing - you can't fight it. And when you have a Real life with real responsibilities like you - it's just purely admirable! But heck - you spotted those color variations ;) that lead into a nice exchange of ideas and stuff :D

All life has "real responsibilities", dear. Don't allow yourself to think otherwise because of how you live compared to how others live. Responsibilities change, some become more important, soome fade away, some are things you never imagined but if it pertains to YOUR life, then it's just as "real" as anyone else's & just as important.

For example, right now I have 2 young children & they rely on me like I've never had anyone rely on me before. It's a pretty crazy, strange, cool, sucky, big responsibility. But do I HAVE to take it seriously? Actually no, & many parents don't. Which is too bad for the children. Sometimes I don't feel like brushing my girls' teeth. Sometimes I give them ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch & dinner all in one day. Sometimes I just need a break & take the easy way out or through. Other times I rock it! But...

When I was a kid myself, & a teen/young adult, I feel my biggest responsibility was to make it to adulthood. Yeah, simply getting through the years of awful evolutionary chemical imbalances, out-of-control hormones, & mental disability to a more stable mind-set was a full-time job. And THEN there was school & peers & parents & GAH!! All sorts of crap! My pulling through it safely & soundly was a responsibility I had to my future happiness & my family's future happiness (as difficult as it was for me to see that @ the time). But as you can see, I WON! But barely.

Take what you can to be happy without causing too much damage & just hold on. I think your obsession with Mr. Hiddleston is just fine as long as it doesn't begin to hinder you in your day to day life in any way. If you want any other images of anything in particular, you let me know, okay?

And thanks for the [long] exchange; yes, indeed a great way to learn to look @ things in different ways & pass on new ideas & "stuff"! Sorry so long! Take care!

Cool! indeed what SamaelCosplayer pointed out, that the circlets may be gold when his outfit changes to the full-armored one does make sense. It may be that way, i'll pay attention to that when I watch the movie next time. ;)
